OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE
KALLIO WALKING TOUR
Join this tour to explore Helsinki's less discovered and cool areas mostly overlooked by visitors. In this experience, we'll forget the classic touristic monuments and sights, but instead, take a deep dive into Finnish society, and explore the old working-class district of Kallio.
We'll learn about the parts of Finnish history normally tour guides skip talking about. How was life for the working-class people of Helsinki when we broke away from Russian rule? How does the 1920s alcohol prohibition law still affect the Finnish culture today?
We'll talk about the Finnish social welfare system and its development while exploring Kallio's sights and hidden gems. You'll get to know about architecture and see the building where Lenin was hiding from the authorities in September 1917.
Today Kallio is a melting pot of cultures, movements, and ideas. It's a neighborhood very popular among students, artists, and also immigrants. You can do your daily groceries in for example Chinese, Ethiopian, Indian, Korean, Middle Eastern, or Mexican stores. There are many vibrant restaurants, cool bars, and lately, also high-end dinner service.
After the tour, I will give you a personalized recommendations list of places to eat, drink and hang around in Kallio.
